Terms of Service
Clear expectations for safe, useful English practice at Highlands.
Last updated: October 12, 2026 · English
1. Purpose and eligibility
Real-Life English Coach is provided by Highlands Community Charter & Technical Schools (HCCTS), powered by Highlands Brain, for school-authorized English practice. These terms apply to use of the app. Practice access is available to staff using @hccts.org accounts and students using @student.hccts.org accounts, subject to school account status and access settings. Personal Google accounts are not eligible. Administrator functions require separate authorization.
2. Responsible use
Use your own school account and follow HCCTS technology and conduct rules. Keep your account secure and sign out on shared devices. Do not impersonate another person, share credentials, attempt to access another user's records, bypass usage limits, interfere with the service, or submit abusive, unlawful or malicious content.
Practice with fictional examples. Do not enter passwords, financial account details, sensitive records or another person's private information. Only submit content you are authorized to use.
3. AI feedback and learning limits
This is a practice service, not a monitored emergency channel. The app cannot contact emergency services, your teacher or a counselor on your behalf. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services directly.
The coach uses AI and can make mistakes, misunderstand your meaning or produce inaccurate or inappropriate responses. Review its suggestions and ask your teacher when something is unclear. Feedback and summaries are learning aids, not official grades, proficiency certifications, placement decisions or employment evaluations.
Pronunciation practice provides examples and local recording/replay; it does not provide a validated pronunciation score. Voices and speech recognition vary by browser and device. The app is not a substitute for a teacher or qualified medical, legal, immigration, financial or emergency assistance. Do not rely on a simulated conversation for an important real-world decision.
4. Privacy and microphone choices
The Privacy Policy explains school sign-in, stored practice, AI processing, browser speech services and optional Coda reporting. Microphone features are optional; typed practice remains available. Pronunciation recordings stay in the current browser page, while browser speech recognition may use an online transcription service. Read the policy before submitting personal information.
These terms do not waive any privacy or education-record rights that apply to you. Contact HCCTS if you need an alternative way to participate or help understanding these terms.
5. Your content and school materials
You retain any rights you hold in content you submit. By submitting content, you allow HCCTS and its service providers to process it as needed to operate the practice features described in the Privacy Policy. This does not transfer ownership of your original content to HCCTS.
School names, logos and learning materials remain subject to their existing ownership and permitted uses. You may save or print your practice summaries for your own learning. A summary is not an official transcript or certification, and you should protect copies that contain personal information.
6. Availability and access
The app depends on internet access, school authentication, hosting and AI services. Features may be unavailable or interrupted, and daily or session limits may apply. HCCTS may maintain or change the service and restrict access for account changes, misuse, security or school operational needs. Contact your teacher or support if access prevents you from participating.
The service is provided for practice without a promise that every response is correct or that access will be uninterrupted. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
7. Updates and support
HCCTS may revise these terms as the app changes. The date above identifies this version. For technical problems, inappropriate AI output, accessibility assistance or questions about these terms, contact Brain@hccts.org. Include the situation and error message, but do not email passwords or sign-in tokens.
